Countermeasures for Tip Loss, Cracking, and Base Material Damage
8) Tip Loss
Symptom

Causes
- Excessive stress on the blade caused by twisting, side loading, or curved cutting.
- Blade tip caught on reinforcing steel while cutting a concrete slab.
- Abnormal blade overheating due to insufficient cooling water reduces the strength of a brazed joint.
Corrective Actions and Preventive Measures
- Avoid excessive side loading or curved cutting that places undue stress on the blade.
- Use a blade with the required final cutting width from the start of the operation.
- Ensure an adequate supply of cooling water at all times.
9) Tip Cracking
Symptom

Causes
- The tip experienced fatigue failure due to excessive vibration.
- Thermal shock was applied to the tip as a result of excessive heat generation.
Corrective Actions and Preventive Measures
- Prevent abnormal vibration during operation.
- Prevent excessive heat generation.
10) Blade Core Cracking
Symptom

Causes
- Cracking in the slotted section of the blade core caused by undue stress resulting from:
- Excessively high-powered machine used or undue feed pressure applied.
- Improper installation causes blade to wobble.
- Angled cutting
- Curved cutting
- Twisting of the blade.
- Insufficient cooling water caused abnormal overheating of the blade core.
Corrective Actions and Preventive Measures
- Ensure adequate cooling water to prevent blade core overheating.
