5) Uneven Side Wear of Diamond Tips

Symptom

Causes

  1. Misalignment of the blade with respect to the machine's directional track.
  2. Uneven cooling water supply between both sides of the blade.

Corrective Actions and Preventive Measures

  1. Repair and adjust the machine.
  2. Clean the cooling water passages.
  3. Check the flanges for damage or foreign material trapped between the mating surfaces.

6) Uneven Peripheral Wear

Symptom

Causes

  1. When cutting hard materials, excessive feed force caused blade hammering (vibration).
  2. Excessive play existed between the blade arbor hole and the machine spindle.
・Play may have been caused by wear of the bearings or machine spindle.

Corrective Actions and Preventive Measures

  1. If excessive vibration occurs:
    ・Reduce the machine feed rate.
    ・Dress the blade.
・Use a softer-bond blade with better cutting performance.
  2. Use a blade matched to the machine spindle.
・Replace worn bearings or the spindle if necessary.

7) Undercutting

Symptom

Causes

  1. Cutting was performed in a roadbed containing a high concentration of sand.
  2. Insufficient cooling water allowed sand particles to accumulate in the slurry.

Corrective Actions and Preventive Measures

  1. When cutting road base materials, avoid cutting the roadbed deeper than necessary.
  2. Increase the cooling water supply to help flush away cutting debris.
