Causes and Countermeasures for Poor Cutting Performance, Burn Marks, and Wear

1) Poor Cutting Performance (Glazing)

Symptom

Causes

  1. Cutting was performed under severe operating conditions.
    • Insufficient machine power or excessively high rotational speed
    • Excessive feed rate or overly deep cuts
  2. Hard materials were cut continuously.
  3. Plastics or metals outside the blade's intended application range were cut.
    Note: Reinforced concrete is excluded from this restriction.

Corrective Actions and Preventive Measures

  1. Use less severe cutting conditions.
    • Use an appropriate machine and rotational speed.
    • Reduce the feed rate.
    • Use step-cutting techniques.
  2. The diamond segments have become glazed and cutting efficiency has decreased. Dress the blade by cutting softer abrasive materials such as grinding wheels (#40-80), lightweight concrete blocks, or soft concrete.
  3. Do not cut plastics or metals outside the blade's specified application range.

2) Blade Burning

Causes

  1. The cooling water supply stopped during cutting, causing dry cutting conditions.
  2. A dull blade was used under increasingly severe cutting conditions.

Corrective Actions and Preventive Measures

  1. Supply sufficient cooling water to prevent abnormal blade overheating caused by water starvation.
  2. Dress the blade when cutting performance begins to deteriorate.

3) Abnormal Wear (Poor Cutting Performance / Low Diamond Protrusion)

Causes

  1. Cutting continued after the blade had become dull.
  2. Bearings were defective, or the blade mounting shaft was worn.
  3. The blade was operated with a loose V-belt or at an improper rotational speed.

Corrective Actions and Preventive Measures

  1. Abnormal vibration caused excessive bond wear.
    ・Dress the blade when cutting performance deteriorates.
  2. Abnormal vibration from the machine spindle caused excessive bond wear.
    ・Repair the machine.
  3. Low rotational speed increases bond wear.
    ・Repair the machine and operate at the proper rotational speed.

4) Abnormal Wear (Good Cutting Performance / High Diamond Protrusion)

Causes

  1. Abrasive materials such as grinding wheels or sand were cut.
  2. Cutting was performed using a high-powered machine.

Corrective Actions and Preventive Measures

  1. Cutting debris caused excessive wear of the bond.
  2. Use an appropriate machine for the application.
