The DB3 is a distribution box designed to connect and operate up to three internal vibrators. 

The Importance of Proper Extension Cable Selection

In recent years, EXEN`s high-frequency 48 V internal vibrators have become widely used.

These internal vibrators are typically operated using a system consisting of a power supply unit, extension cables, and a distribution box.

Extension cables are used when the distance between the power supply unit and the vibrator is significant. A distribution box is required when multiple internal vibrators are connected to a single power supply unit.

Background of the Issue and Investigation Results

For EXEN, one of the most important reliability issues concerning internal vibrators has been the prevention of stator burnout.

We have been investigating the causes of stator burnout since July 1997.

Commonly recognized causes of stator burnout include:
・Broken cables
・Bearing lock-up
・Phase loss
・Overloading
・Overvoltage

With the HBM-Z Series, we have achieved a level of quality assurance whereby stator burnout caused by cable breakage, bearing seizure, overload, or overvoltage is virtually eliminated.

Our investigation identified two primary causes:

  1. Phase loss and voltage imbalance caused by worn electrical contacts, damaged plug or receptacle terminals, or deterioration of split-contact sections, resulting in stator burnout.
  2. Voltage drop caused by connecting multiple extension cables or cable reels between the power supply unit and the internal vibrator. This voltage drop can cause the vibrator to operate under overload (overcurrent) conditions, resulting in stator burnout.
